Authors Fund

You may also consider designating your gift specifically for the Virginia Festival of the Book Authors Fund, which will provide much-needed funds for author travel and lodging, thus enabling us to recruit and bring to the Festival:

  • highly sought-after authors with international name recognition,
  • compelling authors from under-represented backgrounds, and
  • up-and-coming authors before they’re generally well known.

With initial funding from David Baldacci, Renee and John Grisham, Jan Karon, and Lee Smith, we have created the Authors Fund as a way to ensure the Festival’s financial sustainability and to continue building the level of excellence audiences have come to expect. By contributing to the Authors Fund, you support the Festival’s continued excellence in the caliber and diversity of authors we recruit, the programs we host, and the audiences we engage in discussion of critical topics. To designate a gift to the Authors Fund, please make a note of this on your check or online donation form.

Carol Troxell Fund

In January, our community suffered a terrible loss with the sudden passing of Carol Troxell, thirty-year owner of New Dominion Bookshop. To honor Carol’s memory, her influence on Charlottesville’s literary community, her unerring knack for recommending books for any sort of reader, and her support for the Virginia Festival of the Book, we invite you to support the Carol Troxell Fund–celebrating voracious reading.

Each year, the Festival will feature an author as the Carol Troxell Reader, featuring him or her in a solo reading at New Dominion in addition to their regular program. By contributing to this fund, you will help support this ongoing effort and the selected authors, this year and in the future. We hope you can help us honor Carol’s memory in this way.

Sponsorships

The Virginia Festival of the Book, produced by Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, will host its 23rd annual event on March 22-26, 2017. This five- day celebration of books, authors, and literacy attracts readers of all ages and writers in all genres to hundreds of events in Charlottesville and Albemarle County, Virginia. In 2017, we invite you to invest in your community by sponsoring Virginia Festival of the Book programming.

As a sponsor of the 23rd annual Virginia Festival of the Book you are investing in reading, books, and literacy, while also demonstrating your support of the premier spring festival in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Designated a “signature community event” by the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Festival welcomes more than 20,000 attendees over five days each March.

The Festival offers a variety of opportunities for sponsors to reach a broad audience through Festival programming and marketing to both local attendees and those from across the Commonwealth and the country. By sponsoring this community-wide Festival, with most of its events free for all to attend, you help sustain the quality of life many residents and visitors seek in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Please contact Jane Kulow for details, including sponsorship benefits.
