Open to participating students and their family and friends, this program features student readings of original works by middle and high school students from public and private schools in the region who participated in the 2017 Festival’s Poetry & Prose Contest. Contest winners will also have their work anthologized.
Students from the City of Charlottesville as well as Albemarle, Greene, Fluvanna, Louisa, and Nelson counties in grades 5-8 and 9-12 are invited to submit their poetry and prose on any topic. Deadline: February 15, 2017.
Plus, the inaugural Cville Pride Award in the Poetry & Prose Contest will recognize student writers who embrace topics and/or perspectives that are relevant to the LGBTQ+ community. These may range from discussions of identity and selfhood, to explorations of sexuality, gender, and/or the process of coming out.
Students who are interested in being considered for the award may self-select on their application when submitting work to the Poetry & Prose competition. One winner and one runner-up will be selected by the Cville Pride judges and announced at the Poetry & Prose Celebration.
