Festival: What motivated you to become a writer?
Hibbert: I’d always dreamed of being a writer, but authors were like rock stars to me. It seemed like a ridiculous aspiration. In the end, it was my grandmother passing away — combined with my anxieties about working a ‘real job’ while disabled — that pushed me to take the leap and try self-publishing a book. I expected it all to go horribly wrong, but nothing terrible’s happened yet!
Who or what are some of your creative influences?
Books have always fed my creativity. I love romance, and my favorite authors include Beverly Jenkins, Nalini Singh, K.J. Charles, Jodie Slaughter, Alexis Hall, and Adore Ian.
What impact or takeaway do you hope your work will have for readers?
I hope readers come away from my books feeling romance-induced, glowy satisfaction. I also hope that seeing my characters be loved no matter reinforces the fact that everyone deserves a happy ending.
What is something that you’ve read recently and would recommend to others?
I recently finished Black by Joan Vassar and it was incredible.
What are you working on next?
More sexy, diverse romances! I’m currently writing an opposites-attract, small-town romance with a lot of emotional healing.
