Each year the Virginia Festival of the Book presents more than 100 programs, reaching over 20,000 people.

We can’t do this alone, though. Our community partners, sponsors, and volunteers provide critically needed support to ensure that Festival programming reaches people of all ages and backgrounds, and speaks to the diverse interests and needs of Virginians.

Speak about your book

Authors (and publishers or publicists, on their behalf) can submit participant applications prior to our annual deadline of October 1. The applications are available on this website by June 1 each year for the Festival taking place the following spring.

Partner with us

Community partners have the opportunity to propose a program and help promote it, provide a venue, and/or support the work of the Festival through a sponsorship. To learn more or suggest a program, contact Jane Kulow (vabook@virginia.edu or 434 924-7548) by October 1 for the Festival taking place the following spring.

Sponsor a program

Any community organization wishing to sponsor the Festival, a specific program, or a track of programs can contact Jane Kulow (vabook@virginia.edu or 434 924-7548). Benefits vary with the event and size of sponsorship but may include: name and logo displayed on the website and in printed materials; name and logo displayed at the event; public announcement of sponsorships; and/or complimentary tickets and special seating.

Whether helping out for a couple hours or a few days, volunteers play a big role in the Festival. From handling on-site program logistics to providing office support, the Festival could not happen without volunteers.

Now Accepting Submissions for 2021 Festival

Through October 1, we invite submissions of original, published books (all genres) to be considered for inclusion in the 2021 Virginia Festival of the Book.

The Festival encourages submissions by individuals from diverse backgrounds, including race and ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation, class, and/or abilities.
